Gabi Diamond won’t be making her way to the unemployment line anytime soon! Freeform’s hit Wednesday night comedy Young & Hungry will be coming back for a fifth season – as revealed by star Emily Osment Monday morning via Twitter.
“Going back to work for Season 5 of Young & Hungry in one week,” Osment’s tweeted. “No one has announced it yet so I am! You’re welcome!”
The renewal news comes nearly two months after the series Season 4 finale (which aired on August 3) and puts the series on track for a Winter 2017 debut – previous seasons have debuted in February and March, making the two months our top candidates thus far.
This summer, Freeform’s Young & Hungry/Baby Daddy Wednesday night comedy block ranked as the Top 2 original ad-supported cable comedies of the summer among Adults 18-34, Viewers 12-34, and Women 12-34 and 18-34 to reach a combined 10 million total viewers. The fourth season of Young & Hungry averaged 550,000 total viewers and a 0.27 demo rating in the overnight numbers this season, inching up to both viewers and in the demo season to season. Additional details including an official premiere date and episode count are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. (Considering that Season 3 and Season 4 each ran for ten episodes, though, all signs seem to be pointing towards another 10-episode run.) The fate of the series’ spinoff project Young & Sofia also remains unclear at this point as no official decision has been announced regarding the fate of the project.
