Seems like Freeform has a hankering for more Young & Hungry. The cable network has ordered additional episodes of the romantic comedy’s fifth season, it announced Wednesday. The initial Season 5 order was the standard 10 episodes. The back order is said to also be for 10 episodes, would bring the total to 20 episodes, matching the episode count of Season 2. Season 5 will get underway on Monday, March 13 (8/7c); the back half of the season will air at a date to be determined.

Gabi Diamond won’t be making her way to the unemployment line anytime soon! Freeform’s hit Wednesday night comedy Young & Hungry will be coming back for a fifth season – as revealed by star Emily Osment Monday morning via Twitter.
“Going back to work for Season 5 of Young & Hungry in one week,” Osment’s tweeted. “No one has announced it yet so I am! You’re welcome!”
The renewal news comes nearly two months after the series Season 4 finale (which aired on August 3) and puts the series on track for a Winter 2017 debut – previous seasons have debuted in February and March, making the two months our top candidates thus far.
This summer, Freeform’s Young & Hungry/Baby Daddy Wednesday night comedy block ranked as the Top 2 original ad-supported cable comedies of the summer among Adults 18-34, Viewers 12-34, and Women 12-34 and 18-34 to reach a combined 10 million total viewers. The fourth season of Young & Hungry averaged 550,000 total viewers and a 0.27 demo rating in the overnight numbers this season, inching up to both viewers and in the demo season to season. Additional details including an official premiere date and episode count are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. (Considering that Season 3 and Season 4 each ran for ten episodes, though, all signs seem to be pointing towards another 10-episode run.) The fate of the series’ spinoff project Young & Sofia also remains unclear at this point as no official decision has been announced regarding the fate of the project.

Based on Shields’ award-winning short of the same name, the story takes place in a world where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality is taboo. Briana Evigan (“Step Up”), Tyler Blackburn (“Pretty Little Liars”), Emily Osment, and Jeremy Sisto star. Members of the filmmaking team, cast members, and special guests will appear at screenings.
“It’s time to celebrate our similarities instead of fighting about our differences; intolerance of any kind is unacceptable,” said writer and director Kim Rocco Shields. “I am very passionate about this film and The MovieMent, and I am thrilled to be continuing the dialogue that started three years ago, with the universal language of love”. The film will release digitally on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 via iTunes.
