The Kominsky Method: Premiere Date Announced

Netflix will soon reveal The Kominsky Method. The single-camera comedy series from sitcom titan Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) and starring Academy Award winners Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin will be released on Friday, Nov. 16. The announcement was first made on Twitter, along with the streaming service’s portion of the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Sunday. The first season, which consists of eight episodes, centers on once-famous actor Sandy Kominsky (Douglas) and his longtime friend/agent Norman Newlander (Arkin). Together, they attempt to navigate the youth and beauty-obsessed culture of Los Angeles in their later years of life.

As previously announced, Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing) and Sarah Baker (Young Sheldon) co-star. Lisa Edelstein (House), Emily Osment (Young & Hungry), Susan Sullivan (Dharma & Greg), Graham Rogers (Atypical), Ashleigh LaThrop (Sirens), Melissa Tang (Mom), Casey Brown (Chance) and Jenna Lyng Adams round out the recurring cast.

TVLine: Young & Hungry to End With Season 5 – But (as Usual) There’s a Twist

Freeform has had its fill of Young & Hungry — the sitcom’s current fifth season will indeed be its last. But (and this is a pretty big “but”) the cabler announced on Thursday that it is developing a two-hour movie that will “further the adventures of Gabi, Josh and their circle of friends.” The series’ final 10 episodes (aka Season 5B) will premiere on Wednesday, June 20 at 8/7c. Rumors about the series’ end game kicked up last month when leading lady Emily Osment told fans on social media that the show’s “final 10 episodes” would air sometime in 2018. And then earlier this week, the show’s Season 6 fate was all but sealed when Osment was cast in a CBS comedy pilot.

There were no additional details about the prospective reunion movie, although Freeform confirms the series’ primary creative team — including David Holden, Caryn Lucas, Ashley Tisdale, and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum — will shepherd the project. Freeform also released the following logline for Season 5B:

“Gabi and Josh [are] finally together and in love, but now navigating their new status as a full-fledged couple. Meanwhile, the rest of Josh’s staff, Yolanda and Elliot, are grappling with the change in work dynamic with Gabi as the “woman of the house.” Sofia, Gabi’s best friend, who begins to feel like a third wheel with the new couple, sets out on her own path to find love.”

Young & Hungry stars Osment (Hannah Montana) as Gabi Diamond, a young (!) chef who’s hungry (!) for work, until she’s hired by handsome millionaire Josh Kaminski (played by S#*! My Dad Says‘ Jonathan Sadowski), with whom she eventually falls in love. Along for the ride are Josh’s publicist Elliot (Entourage‘s Rex Lee) and housekeeper Yolanda (Black Dynamite‘s Kym Whitley), as well as Gabi’s roommate Sofia (Elena of Avalor‘s Aimee Carrero).

Deadline: Emily Osment & Matt Shively To Topline CBS Comedy Pilot ’25’

The Real O’Neals alum Matt Shively and Young & Hungry star Emily Osment will lead the cast of CBS’ hybrid comedy pilot 25. Denée Benton (Lifetime’s UnReal) and Jessie Ennis (HBO’s Veep) will co-star in the pilot, which Chris Koch has come on board to direct. Osment is coming off a starring turn as Gabi Diamond on Freeform’s Young & Hungry, which is expected to end after five seasons. She is done with the series, and the CBS pilot has her in first position.

Written by Hilary Winston, 25 centers on twentysomething Kyle (Shively), who comes to Austin to finally convince his old best friend from camp, Kate (Osment), that they are perfect for each other. Unfortunately, she just got engaged. A lot of guys would give up; Kyle is not one of those guys. But to Kyle’s surprise, even though he came to town looking for “the one,” he might end up with much more than that. Shively’s Kyle is a smart, intense and confident young man who has moved to Austin ostensibly to start his own software company. But he’s really in town to declare his love for Kate.

Osment’s Kate is a fun, competitive, bright medical student. Kyle may have been in love with her for the past decade or so — but as far as Kate is concerned, he is strictly in the friend zone. She is delighted when her longtime boyfriend Jimmy proposes to her, just after Kyle arrives in town. Benton will play Morgan, Kate’s roommate and best friend. Morgan knows right away that Kyle is angling to win Kate away from her fiancé — and although she understands Kyle’s feelings, she wants to protect Kate from getting hurt.

Ennis will play Becca, Kate and Morgan’s good friend, who can be “the life (or death)” of the party based on her mood. Winston and Koch executive produce alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver for Sony Pictures TV and CBS TV Studios. Osment co-stars with a one-year deal on Chuck Lorre’s upcoming Netflix comedy series The Kominsky Method after recurring on his CBS sitcom Mom. Shively played Jimmy O’Neal on ABC’s The Real O’Neals and also co-starred in the movie Power Rangers. Benton, known for her role as contestant Ruby Carter on UnReal, was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. Ennis next will be seen in New Line’s Life of the Party.
